About me

Slippery surface

Untreated pavements covered by compacted snow present quite the challenge to someone as clumsy and uncoordinated as me. As a result, I have to miss my usual morning stroll to work and hop on public transport instead: not nearly such a relaxing start to the day.

Though as much as that frustrates me, I’m lucky that I’m not so unstable or vulnerable that I feel unable to leave the house, which must apply to a great many people under these conditions.

City sunrise

One of the great pleasures of living in Newcastle is walking to work across the Town Moor – at this time of year, often rewarded by spectacular sunrises over the city.

Arthur’s Hill

I’ve been up at the Arthur’s Hill health centre this morning, meeting with my brilliant tuberculosis nursing colleagues. The precipitous drop in the number of cases of TB over the last half century is one of our greatest public health success stories, but there is still much more to do if we are to reach the World Health Organization’s goal of eradication.

As the clinic doesn’t make for a great picture, here’s another: the gurdwara round the corner.
