Spam attack

Hold up! Before you read on, please read this...

This post was published more than 12 years ago

I keep old posts on the site because I often enjoy reading old content on other people's sites. Not everything that is old is bad. It can be interesting to see how views have changed over time: for example, how my strident teenage views have mellowed and matured.

But given the age of this post, please bear in mind:

  • My views might very well have changed in the 12 years since I wrote this post. I have written some very silly things over the years, many of which I find pretty embarrassing today.
  • This post might use language in ways which I would now consider highly inappropriate or offensive.
  • Factual information might be outdated.
  • Links might be broken; embedded material might not appear properly.

Okay. Consider yourself duly warned. Read on...

For some reason, Akismet isn’t keeping up with the spam comments on the blog today, and after deleting several hundred comments, they’re still coming in. Perhaps it’s related to an update Akismet performed last night? Either way, because of this, I’ve temporarily disabled commenting on the whole blog. It’s the first time I’ve ever had to take such drastic action, and I hope to restore service within the next few hours.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Edit: It’s all sorted again now. See the comments for details (it was the Akismet update that did it…)

There was a problem with the Akismet service, very sorry about that. The blog has details.

Okey doke, thanks Matt (still slightly jaw-dropped that you found and actually commented here – actually, not for the first time – I read you all the time!)

Here’s a link to the Akismet blog post for anyone who’s interested in it. Of course, the site is back to normal for commenting now (it has been for a while, I just didn’t want to shout about it until I was sure Akismet had everything fixed).

Matt Mullenweg posted here – I’m thinking of adding it as a tagline…!
