Photo-a-day 109: Dark chocolate and wasabi fudge cake
One of my Wagamama favourites… though I usually prefer the miniature version plus a macchiato!

After a busy set of weekend nights for Wendy, and a busy few days for me, we decided to go for a cheeky bit of cake tonight… even if it is only Monday!

Wendy went to her first ever cake decorating class today, and this is what she brought home (along with a huge smile!). I wouldn’t have guessed it was her first class from this alone! It looks pretty incredible to me, although the greenhouse had melted a little by the time I got the picture!

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that Wendy and I were evacuated from the Handmade Burger Company at the Metrocentre tonight after our meal was rudely interrupted by the restaurant setting on fire…!
One of the downsides of the open kitchen is that the flames were quite clearly visible. Initially, we were told to ignore them, as the gas had been turned off and they’d soon subside. But we were warned that our chips might be delayed.
As the flames persisted, the chef produced a fire extinguisher, which also failed to extinguish the flames.
We were reassured that everything was fine, even as the fire alarms were blaring… it was only when the sprinklers started that the staff decided the time was right for an evacuation… of the whole centre. We didn’t even get our chips!
The picture shows the fire engine that came to the rescue. There may have been more than one, but Wendy and I walked across to the McDonalds on the nearby retail park as soon as we were out – we were hungry!
I guess you could say that our whole evening was flame-grilled, not just out burgers!

Wendy, her mum, and I lunched in Olive and Bean today. Their paninis are delicious, and the service is always great too. If ever you’re looking for somewhere a bit different for a coffee or a sandwich in Newcastle, Olive and Bean comes highly recommended!

No trip to London is complete without stopping off here to pick up supplies for my girlfriend: there’s nothing she likes better than a milk chocolate Ben’s cookie, with extra big chocolate chunks!

Writing about popcorn this morning made me want some, so I walked down to Blockbuster this afternoon and picked up my entitlement!

I’ve said before that Caffè Nero is my natural third place. I don’t think I’ve admitted online before that I like their tea blend so much that I once bought a whole box of teabags from them… Mmm!

As a public health doctor, I should be reminding you to get your five-a-day, drink less, stop smoking, and do more exercise… But the occasional handmade burger does make a lovely Friday night treat…
