Gordon Brown has enough nominations to ensure that he will not face a challenger for the Labour leadership. So now he has to fight a six-week election against, erm, nobody. To me, that seems a bit silly. But maybe that’s why I’m not a politician.

My favourite ever text came into 60300 last night: Presumably in response to this story, the anonymous respondent sent “Simon mate. Get out the 80s”. I sort of see where he or she is coming from, but that’s a message sent from a mobile phone to a blog claiming I’m stuck in the 80s. Oh, the irony.

A pretty unreliable source which is known for reprinting tabloid gossip without credit claims that the BBC has pulled out of negotiations to keep Neighbours after its latest offer was rejected. Will it work outside of its cosy BBC home, though? I’m not so sure.
You saw it here first – Javier Prato, the maker of this film (which first appeared on this site over a year ago) has been offered a multimillion pound deal to make a feature-length version. Really. He has. It’s true.

I forgot to point this out last week: There was much coverage of the increased costs of calling home from hospital in the media at large, with much criticism of the provider of the systems, PatientLine. But as I said back in 2005, when this was last in the news, it’s not PatientLine who’s to blame – it’s Mad Pat.
Only in Southport could a £154 inflation-beating year-on-year increase in pension payments be met with a full page complaint from a pensioner.
